Jackson, Portland, OR

Jackson, or as his family likes to call him, “Black Jack,” is a 1-year-old from Portland, OR. Jackson loves to laugh and is already starting to communicate through signing! Jackson's parents are very grateful for his health and the support they receive within their community.

When Jackson was first born, he had a hole in his heart and needed surgery at 4 months of age. Jackson’s story was featured in the local paper, The Oregonian, and in the magazine Women’s World. The articles inspired many families with children with Down syndrome to contact Jackson’s family and share their own story. “There is so much more to Black Jack than just Down syndrome,” says his family. “His nickname is just a reminder that we are so lucky to have him, for so many different reasons.”

The family looks forward to participating in its first Buddy Walk this year. It will be an opportunity for them to connect their friends and family to the friends they’ve made within the Down syndrome community!
